 Shelters is the Architecture theme we're hunting for this week for Thursday Postcard Hunt .  Military Tent Camp, c.1910 RPPC Bowles Spring House on the grounds of the French Lick Springs Hotel in Indiana around 1910 . Cliff Palace, the largest cliff dwelling in North America, in Mesa Verde National Park, CO August's postcards will be Travelling.  Or, as I, being American, would put it, Traveling!  For the Hunt I'll be using the host's spelling of course.  First up will be Trains.

  Thursday Postcard Hunt for this week is Architecture: Stations  Car Station, Swan Point, Providence, Rhode Island, USA postcard c.1908-1915   A car station was a trolley depot or streetcar shelter. The theater and tramway station in Laon, France  postcard c.1910-1914  The railway station in Vincey, France postcard c.1905-1910 Shelters is next week, the last of the Architecture theme.  

 Let's take a look at some Palace postcards for the Architecture theme this week for  Thursday Postcard Hunt . The Grand Palace in Brussels, Belgium  c.1905-1910 The Crystal Palace , London, England  Dated on back 9.5.07 from " Daddy ."  The Palace of Applied Arts, Franco-British Exhibition London, England Postmarked 1908 (time of Exhibition) Next week is Stations. 

Houses is the Architecture theme this week for Thursday Postcards .  Wm. Carson Residence , Eureka, CA   EKKP stamp box can be from dates from 1904 to 1950, however this Real Photo Post Card dates between 1904 and 1910.  Postmarked 1954, an aerial view of the Elliott House, Otter Lake, Ontario, Canada.  The Elliott House was a hotel opened seasonally from June to October. Greetings from Schwaikheim, Germany c.1945-1952 Next week's Architecture will be Palaces. 

 July's theme for Thursday Postcard Hunt is Architecture.  This week is Churches. AZO stamp box, pre-1907-1910 - unknown location, most likely east coast U.S.A. St. John's Catholic Church, Rochester, MN EKC stamp box, 1930-1950 The Tower of London, England.  Tower Green, place of executions and St. Peter's Church c.1907-1910 Next week's Architecture theme is Houses.

  Thursday Postcard Hunt 's Shapes theme ends this week with Irregular/Wavy postcards. Sand Dunes near Pismo Beach, CA From the Lake No. 1 by Georgia O'Keeffe, 1924 K9 Kitty , 2001.  According to the reverse of the postcard, this shows " vegetable dye on Mindy, Siamese snowshoe cross ."  However, further research has shown it is digitally altered, no cats were dyed or painted at all.  What a disappointment! One of the postcards in  Why Cats Paint  which unfortunately my thrift store took apart to sell individually.  I have told them more than once I'd pay several dollars for an intact postcard book, more than the 5¢ each price they get taking the books apart.   Mindy's "paint" job is said to have frightened the neighbor's fox terrier into leaving her alone!  I wonder if Mindy even had a fox terrier neighbor?  July brings the new theme of Architecture, with Churches being first next week.

 This week Thursday Postcard Hunt 's Shape is Lines.  The Hawaiian flag has lines.  Yes, that's the British Union Jack, and here's why .  The logo for the 10th Pan American games held in Indianapolis, IN in 1987 has lines.  Staying within the lines at the IU Track and Field Stadium, Indianapolis, IN (now called Carroll Stadium) at the 1987 Pan American games track and field events. Traditional houses in Marken, North Holland, the Netherlands have lots of decorative lines. Next week, the last in June, will bring us Irregular/Wavy Shapes.   

 Let's see some Curves for this week's Shapes theme with  Thursday Postcard Hunt ! The I-70 (formerly US 40) and I-77 (formerly US 21) cloverleaf near Cambridge, Ohio - at the time it was the world's largest interchange. The Pennsylvania Turnpike's Carlisle Interchange. Patterson Bridge  (or Rogue River Bridge) on the Oregon Coast Highway.  It spans the mouth of the Rogue River between Gold Beach and Wedderburn.    Another Pennsylvania Turnpike, this showing the Kittatinny and Blue Mountain Tunnels.  Yes, I have a lot of Pennsylvania Turnpike postcards!  The highway department seemed  inordinately  proud of it.  Letters is the first of the Shapes theme in June for Thursday Postcard Hunt . I have a book of replica postcards featuring the letters of the alphabet, c.1982 (the originals were published in the early 1900s). 26 are too many to share, so here are the letters for JUNE. Next week the Shape is Curves. 

Thursday Postcard Hunt has us hunting for Forests this week.  California Redwood Highway in Autumn. The Congress Group , The Giant Forest, Sequoia National Park, California View of Feldsee Lake in the Black Forest region of Germany, c1915. Quinault Rain Forest , Olympic National Park, Washington State, is a temperate rain forest. This is where you'll find banana slugs, typically 8" long!  They are not only banana shaped and yellow, they often have brown spots. Next week is June, and the theme is Shapes.  First up will be Letters.  

  We've got Beaches today for Thursday Postcard Hunt.  Bermuda Pismo Beach, California  Cape Cod, Massachusetts  The beach and seawall at The Grand Hotel , Cabourg, France c1912-1914 Next week we'll finish up May with Forests.

It's Public Parks today for Thursday Postcard Hunt .   The lily pond at Shaw's Garden (now the Missouri Botanical Garden  - search " lily pond " for more images from the past),  St. Louis, MO  postmark 1909 Portland, OR Classical Chinese Garden     Princes Street Gardens , Edinburgh, Scotland with Scott Monument in the background. Postmark 1942 The famous Swan Boats in Boston Public Gardens , Boston, MA  This garden was the first botanical garden in the U.S.  Boston also has the honor of having the first public library.  It's not the oldest, but the first publicly funded free one. Next week we visit Beaches. 

 For the month of May Thursday Postcard Hunt 's theme is Parks and Gardens.  This week it's National Parks. Hot Springs National Park, Hot Springs, Arkansas Alligator Farm  c1948 Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada Lake Louise and Victoria Glacier  c1930-1935 Yosemite National Park, California Four Great Waterfalls: Yosemite, Bridal Veil, Vernal, and Nevada (Bridalveil is the old spelling on the back) late 1930s - mid 1940s  Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming The skyline of of the Teton Range viewed from the east, with labeled peaks and landmarks.  A very inconvenient sized postcard for storage!  Next week will be Public Gardens.

 For this last week of Thursday Postcard Hunt 's theme Color of Spring we're hunting for the color  Blue .  From the Porcelains Collection in the Hebert Hoover Presidential Library, West Branch, Iowa  Lake George , Georgia O'Keefe, 1922 Blue Forget-Me-Nots  To My Sweetheart , postmark 1910 Next week is May, and the new theme will be Parks and Gardens. Up first will be National Parks.
