Thursday Postcard Hunt - Light - Lights in Windows

Lights in Windows is this week's Thursday Postcard Hunt theme.

State Capitol Buildings by night were popular postcard images.

Georgia c.1930s - 1940s

Indiana c.1930s - 1940s

North Carolina c.1930-1935

Lights were always shining at the 24 hour Safeway in Jantzen Beach, on Hayden Island, Portland, Oregon... until 2018 when it closed.  Hayden Island is a popular shopping spot for Vancouver, Washington residents, as it's just across the I-5 bridge, and being in Oregon there is no sales tax!

I was going to stop there, but got this Postcrossing one a few days ago from Ann Marie, and it fit the theme too perfectly not to include it.

The Light theme next week is Light or Bright Colors.

  1. Love the state houses, and is there anything more appropriate for today than NYC?

  2. You found some great postcards. Especially the first 3: I never saw this type of buildings pictured at night with light in windows. Awesome finds.

  3. Sad that the 24-hour store closed. But lots of supermarkets seem to be closing nowadays.

  4. ...I like the first three domes.

  5. Capital buildings at night is a great theme, North Carolina is the most inviting of the three. We used to have Safeway I think they were bought out in the UK by another supermarket who rebranded them.

  6. I've always found it interesting how the state capitol buildings all look so similar. And a postcard of a grocery store?!

  8. I may have told you this before, but have you tried Postcrossing? You can send and receive postcards from around the world. It's fun.
