Illustrations: Animals is the theme this week for Thursday Postcards.

There's a story behind it

Four Dogs, from a painting by Lilian Chevoit.
Divided Back Era Postmark 1909

Halloween party.  Wedding. "Possum" hunting. Emma, the message writer, had quite a busy social life!

Postcard that was included in the 1990 book, Doggerel: Great Poets on Remarkable Dogs.  Illustrations are from linocuts by Martha Paulos.

There's a short story behind my attaining this card. My son often goes thrifting with me.  He knows I love dogs.  He knows I collect postcards.  He knows I read and write and have a poetry blog.  Yet, it wasn't until we were backing out of our parking place at St. Vincent de Paul he tells me there was a book of dog poetry with a postcard included for $1.00.  Sigh...  Dogs, postcard, poetry, a trifecta.  Naturally, I pulled back in the space and went to get it.

Next week is August's last, bringing us Food or Plants.

By the way, if you are on WordPress I may not be able to comment.  I do read other's posts, however since I wasn't using WordPress anymore (had been a co-host on a blog, and posted on another's blog) I deleted it.  That means sometimes if I am required to sign in to comment on a blog I can't.  WordPress says that email is already in use, but the account is deleted and the email can't be used again.  Some WordPress blogs allow me to sign in with Google, but not all.  Some allow me to be anonymous, but not all.  I guess it's your comment settings and not me. Anonymous I can try to remember to add who I am!

    1. When I got the postcard I thought it very strange, but after reading the background I could clearly see the haughty Alexander and his sycophants!

    1. I hope so. Although he is frugal, and sometimes will mention something he liked after we leave that was only a few dollars!

    1. Well, we can easily fix that! Join https://www.postcrossing.com/ for free. Send and receive postcards. I selected non-USA ones, so the stamps to mail them are more, $1.70, in the US only 61¢. Contact me via email (in profile right now) and give me your mailing info. and I'll send you a postcard!

    1. The dog poetry book is illustrated with lots of those woodcut illustrations! It's new, so not actual prints though. The first one is so full of dogs, I love it!
