This and That: A Blog

I got an email this morning letting me know it's my 2 year Postcrossing anniversary, or as they call it, Postcrossingversary.  I've been " teleporting joy across the globe with tiny rectangles of paper for 730 days... "  2 years isn't long, some have been at it for many more than that; Postcrossing began in 2005.  By 2008 it reached its first million exchanged postcards, and as of January 2025 hit over 80 million!  There are countries around the world that have issued official Postcrossing postage stamps. In my two years I have received 80 postcards from 30 different countries.  That means postage stamps from 30 different countries too!  I have sent 81 postcards to 27 countries.  Today I received a Postcrossing postcard from India.   The senders enjoy birdwatching, and while waiting for birds will see wildlife such as Indian leopards.  I guess that's like my sighting a mountain lion, but a leopard sound so much more exotic!   T...

  Now that Christmas has come and gone, here are some of the items I thrifted to give as gifts, and some I got as gifts.  I know my audience, and they don't mind thrifted items, and they know I don't either!  You can find some nice gifts to give in thrift stores, or online sites.  This little glass bluebird from St. Vincent de Paul was tagged as Fenton, but I don't think it is. A bird house or feeder boot from Goodwill.  This beautiful twisted Murano style rainbow ribbon sculpture came from a yard sale. 1950s birds perched on pinecones planter. The back part, the planter part, is a nest.  It's a Japanese import of the sort that was sold in stores such as Woolworths.   A new cat toy from the Goodwill Bins.  Baby Cat isn't big on toys, not like Benny was.   A few of Mickey's gifts were thrifted.  The red grinning dog has the red and green checkered body.  Each check has its own squeaker.  That's from the Bins.  The...

 It's December, which means a new theme for Thursday Postcard Hunt .  And, being December, you won't be surprised that the theme is Christmas!  Many of mine came from the bunch I bought last month at St. Vincent de Paul.  This first week will be Christmas postcards with Children, with or without the Christmas toys. c.1909 ©1908 1911 c.1907-1915 ©1910 c.1915-1920 c.1910 Next week's theme is Christmas Trees.
