Sunday Stamps - August 2, 2026
This week for Sunday Stamps we have Aviation.
I think this one pretty much covers the theme with the hot air balloon, spacecraft module, airplane, and zeppelin!
Paraguay 1974
Centennial of the Universal Postal Union
Centennial of the Universal Postal Union
While not mechanical flight, the definition of aviation, the figures in the upper left corner are flying. The image depicts the Universal Postal Monument in Bern, Switzerland. Five female figures, representing Europe, America, Asia, Oceania, and Africa, are circling the globe, passing letters to one another.
I do have two others.
Great Britain 1969
Commemorating the Concorde's first flight

Japan 1994
Dream Bridge
Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo, with hot air balloons and an airship. Hot air balloons are considered part of aviation because they are regulated in many countries by national aviation authorities.

Next week's stamps will be Mountains.
The Concorde was such an elegant, sleek aircraft.
ReplyDeleteThe Japan and Paraguay stamps are so playful. And the image of the monument would make a great postcrossing stamp.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a stamp from Paraguay before - love it!
ReplyDeleteThe first stamp is a fun one, with that zeppelin looking like a cucumber!
ReplyDeleteThis post made me ponder the Concorde. Just imagine, the Concorde started flying about 50 years ago, was retired in 2003 for various reasons (including ONE crash), and we don't have anything like that for non-military use now, almost 25 years later. Not that I ever could have afforded a ticket on one, but it makes me feel we are going backwards in many ways.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad that the concorde is no longer flying around.
ReplyDeleteThat first stamp really covered the gamut.
ReplyDeleteLove the vibrant Paraguay stamp especially as it features the Montgolfier Brothers very fancy balloon.
ReplyDelete...you have some lovely and colorful ones this week.
ReplyDeleteYou are right: the Paraguayan stamp covers the whole topic!
ReplyDeleteThe colourful Janaese stamp made me smile.
