SO Many Flowers! May 2026

Now that April is over, and the A to Z Blogging Challenge with it (other than the Reflections post coming in a few days), it's time to focus on what's happening in the garden. May hit and the blooming began.  It feels that way, some flowers opened without my noticing they were even buds!

Sharing these photos will have to be spread out over a few days this week, there are that many.

I'll start with the front yard, since it ties with the herb garden area for "Best of May" so far.  This is minus the bearded iris, which need their own post, and a few small things like the violas.

Chives of course, the onion type. They seem extra purple this year.

Breeder's Mix hardy geranium has flowers a bit different from the others in the mix I grew from seed.

One of my favorites, Persian catmint.

Some sort of pink and sea thrift.

Sweet William.  I don't know where it came from.  Maybe some random seeds I tossed out there.  Some take.

The columbine is nearly done.  I hope the plant gets enough shade under the knautia to last the summer.

My son dug the rosemary stump and roots out, as well as the remaining Munstead lavender.  I put in another daylily, May May.  There is room for more, so I think I'll move one from the backyard where I can't see well.  Unfortunately the newly dug soil has been discovered by neighboring cats.  I think I know which particular one.  The owner says there are "no such thing as house cats," and provides no litter box for his because "they are icky."  Yes, a grown man told me he finds litter boxes "icky," and has no problem with that "icky" being deposited in other people's yards.

The weather has changed.  While mornings are still cool (although I've noticed 50° doesn't feel very cool anymore, compared to when I moved here), the days are getting up to near 80°, and next week will be in the 80s, perhaps even 85!  I am not ready for summer temperatures.  I have a small house, and if the bedroom doors are shut a portable air conditioner keeps it cool.  However, mine broke at the end of last summer.  Took out the electrical too.  What I didn't know, because the sellers don't tell you, and the boxes and instructions don't mention, is those need a dedicated 220 outlet, like a dryer does.  They do sell some for the regular outlets, so I'll see if I can find one I can afford.  We didn't used to need them, fans were good enough.
