V - The Virgin
V is for The Virgin. I found this hand-painted Mexican devotional Madonna painting in the Goodwill Outlet bins. It's about 75 years old, not a tourist item.
There is a V poem here, a Verso-Rhyme.

its interesting how literal the painter was with putting her up on a pedestal.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this is The Virgin of Guadalupe-I don't know much about Mexican art, but I understand there is a lot of art devoted to her.
ReplyDeleteI researched that, and it's not. It lacks some of the features that one is known for, such as golden rays around her body, black sash, and an angel at her feet. This one is crowned with a cross, not something The Virgin of Guadalupe is shown with. This type was sold for home altars and often called Virgin Queen, Crowned Virgin, or Heavenly Queen.
