Springtime in the Front Yard

I won't say Spring is in full bloom, but it's really starting to show.   Last year a friend gave me some daylily divisions.  I put some in the ground, others in pots until now.

Chorus Line in a line of two. That's a California poppy in the middle, against the house.

This bed used to have the Tuscan Blue rosemary and Munstead lavender, but they grew much too big, and dead underneath.  The rosemary stump still needs to be removed.  The daylilies here are Longfield Pink, Fragrant Returns, and Gentle Shepherd.  See all those poppies all along the path?  I'm taking most out. Take note of the violas, I'm going to mention them soon!

The plant lowest in the middle is Cupid's Dart, moved from the space above the flat rock, which is now Country Fair Winds daylily.  It's a tall one, so I wanted it towards the back.  That bright green on the left is Little Lemon goldenrod's new growth.

I moved Rose Marvel salvia from the backyard, and planted the little Blue-Eyed Grass near it.  That's the one that grew on the top of a stem during the hot weather last summer, instead of making seeds.  I've moved a few perennials from the back, it's pretty much a mess back there!

A few of the sea thrift, candytuft, daylilies, dianthus, etc.  Also the dreaded invasive yarrow that is not so slowly creeping everywhere.

I've never had columbine before this one hitched a ride with a friend's daylily!  I'm surprised to survived summer, this area is full sun.  It was hidden under knautia leaves then though.

Some of the bearded iris are blooming, most aren't.

While we had a lot of rain recently, before that I hooked up my hose to water and found it had a hole.  So, I went to Walmart.  I picked up some violas in the front, outside, but put them back when I found these on the clearance rack inside.  They didn't have this many flowers then, the photo was after a day of rain.  I got three at $1 each, and a four pack for $2.  Now you can't tell them from the $2.67 (or something like that) ones!

Speaking of rain, there were two downpours with thunder and lightning.  Mickey does not like thunder at all!  I refused to put him out, where he'd run around crazy barking at the sky.  I've made that mistake before and I can't get him in!

More rain is expected today.  Hope it's quiet.

I forgot... it's Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!  So linking late.

  1. Oh, you're going to have SO many flowers! That's exciting, and I love your bargain deal on the violas. Mickey, hahaha.

  3. Tell Mickey I'm not fond of thunder, either.
