F - Frost Breaking
I bought this antique print, Frost Breaking, 1850s-1880s, in 1969 or 1970 in Portobello Market, London, when I was 13 years old. It's a photo-engraved electrotype (electric engraving). First, the original artwork was photographed, then a metal plate was etched using electric current, and the plate used to print the image.
An F poetry form can be found here.
Beautiful!
ReplyDelete...no frost here, but some snow!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry to hear that.
DeleteI can "hear" the howling :D!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could take a hound, barking is hard enough to deal with!
DeleteThat's a lot of dogs barking. It would be loud.
ReplyDeleteI love that you purchased this when you were thirteen. How wonderful to have it now.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved dogs! The other two I bought at the same time are The Harrier and Dog of the North American Indians shared in this post... https://thisandthatablog.blogspot.com/2026/01/tuesday-treasures-special-edition.html
DeleteThanks for the poem that explained the story. I had guessed it was someething to do with hounds and hunting.
ReplyDeleteThat's really interesting! Love that it has history as well as artistic interest. @samanthabwriter from

I love their unity.
ReplyDeleteOne of your earlier acquisitions?
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting process to "mass" produce the piece.
