Tuesday Treasures - January 17, 2026

I haven't had much success finding treasures in weeks, maybe even a few months.  The local Goodwill stores have yielded nothing time after time.  Art has been especially scarce as far as original paintings or interesting prints. Plenty of mass produced stuff though.  St. Vincent de Paul has had loads of 5¢ postcards, but those are just not Tuesday Treasure worthy for the most part.
Finally I found two items at St. Vincent de Paul.

This is a Jeanette Glass Co. pressed glass Jadeite milk glass pig. I'd seen it in the case a few times, and eventually asked to see it so I could determine what it was made of.  I was pleased it was glass, and very happy it was milk glass!  You can see the fire in the thin spots, like tail and ears.  This is my first piece of Jadeite.  The Jeanette Glass Co. began production of this color (green glass scraps added to the milk glass formula) in the early 1930s, and coined the name. I've seen bowls and plates at estate sales, but they were out of my price range.  This little piggie was $3.50.

It was produced between 1937 to before 1946.  Jeannette made three pig variations.
1 - smooth standing
2 - fat with a defined snout
3 - miniature
This is the first, a smooth standing pig.  Dating was a result of narrowing down the different details, such as that rough edge along one side of the belly (see above photo), or how distinct the mold line is.  As the mold was used more those edges and lines would become smoother. This pig is one of the earlier ones.
Pressed glass is made in a two part mold.  This "belly button" mark on the pig's belly is where the plunger pushed molten glass into the details of the mold.

The same day I got the pig I found this family of Shepherds.  The only mark is what looks like a 12 in gold on the bottom.  Probably Japanese c.1950s when white glaze with gold accents were popular.  Also, Japanese factories often used small painted numbers to track decorators and molds, usually in gold or red. $2.50

Even the Goodwill Outlet, or Bins, had been disappointing, so I was happy to find a few things last week.  I'll share those next Tuesday, I still have to photograph them.
