This and That: A Blog

 More St. Vincent de Paul ephemera.  A set of ten Treasure Island (CA) Naval Photo Lab photos documenting the arrival and troop disembarkation of the USS... well, the identification of the ship is up to debate.  Depending on which search engine you use it is either the USS Lamar or the USS Bronx.  I am unable to figure out the difference between Bayfield-class (Lamar) and Haskell-class (Bronx), however these are supposedly the differences proving the photos are the USS Lamar.  One search engine's results: The photos show A Bayfield‑class bridge A Bayfield‑class forward mast Bayfield‑class boat davit spacing Bayfield‑class rounded bow contour Bayfield‑class deckhouse shape Bronx, being Haskell‑class, had: A completely different bridge block A different mast arrangement A different lifeboat layout A different bow rake If this is Lamar, the photos show demoblized servicemen, part of Operation Magic Carpet, a post-war troop-return ...

 Light or Bright Colors for Thursday Postcard Hunt . A very colorful Africa in It's a Small World, Disneyland, CA on a vintage postcard. Psychedelic art surrounds a San Francisco cable car and flower stand.  Postcard naturally c.1960s!   For natural Bright Light Colors we go to Alaska for the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. Next week brings the new theme of Cities.  First up will be Asian Cities. 

 As I mentioned two Tuesdays ago, I bought 22 lbs. of glass (breakables, not just actual glass) for $2.20 at the Goodwill Bins.  As soon as I walked in the doors another shopper told me the glass bins had just been rolled out.   An overview of just some of the things.  I crossed of the items I didn't keep for one reason or another.   My favorite find. Can't You Talk?  Chalkware, 7" long base, of a child and a collie asking each other the same question.  It's based on a painting by George A. Holmes.  The image has been reproduced in other materials, some of which were painted  Some are not quite so detailed, a few more blob that dog!  This particular one was produced in the 1920s or 1930s.  A close second only because it's hard to find face vases.  Oh, I've seen them at estate sales, the fancy ladies in hats types, but they are expensive.  Because of the rarity I don't mind the chips.  Besides, they are old ...

Skywatch Friday This is an oldie.  I'm using it to get this post up so people can "find" me.  I used to be Lisa's Garden Adventure, but I accidentally permanently deleted that blog.  I though I was deleting something else.  This one is still under construction.
